I’m feeling lucky, blessed, and hopeful for my new book.
I decided about a week ago it was time I took my writing to the next level—I came to the conclusion that I need to work with a professional editor. I have a friend that had a bad experience with one, so I wasn’t too sure how the whole thing would work out for me. I found three that I thought might work. I decided to think about the three of them for a week. I didn’t have any strong feelings about any of them—good or bad. The day before I was going to make the big decision a fourth fell in my lap and immediately felt right. She did a sample edit for me a few days ago, and she is amazing. I am thrilled and looking forward to learning and evolving as an author. I look forward to establishing a relationship with her that I hope will last for many, many years and novels.
I remember reading something Kurt Vonnegut wrote about his first editor. In those comments, Vonnegut attributed his growth and success as a novelist to his editor. It just goes to show that even the greats needed help along the way.
I am also thankful to all of the people who have helped me edit in the past. You can breathe a sigh of relief—I won’t be asking anymore!
